Michael Leesman is a member of the Corporate and Business Law Department of Coolidge Wall and focuses his practice in the areas of business advising and transactions, contract evaluation, negotiation and drafting, and health care law. Mike assists Coolidge clients in many different areas of their business, and for several clients he functions as general counsel to their owners and leadership team. Mike also is very active in the Coolidge mergers and acquisitions practice, working with clients through all phases of their acquisition or sale process. Mike regularly advises health care providers on their business transactions and the impact of the Federal and state regulatory framework on such transactions.
Mike began his career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio where he represented the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services handling various issues and multiple administrative appeals for State benefit programs including Medicaid. After leaving the Attorney General's Office, Mike worked for several years as in-house counsel for a large, Ohio-based physician group that provides services to hospitals in eight states. As in-house counsel, Mike dealt with a majority of the company's new and regularly renewing business arrangements, gaining significant experience in the areas of contract drafting and negotiation. Mike's work with the physician group, and with Coolidge clients over his many years with the firm, has provided him with valuable experience with many health care compliance issues concerning EMTALA, HIPAA, Stark, Fraud and Abuse, and Anti-Kickback laws.
