Kara T. Ruffolo is an associate in the Tax, Corporate, and Estate Planning Departments. She counsels clients on a wide range of federal, state, and local tax issues. Kara’s corporate practice involves counseling clients on issues pertaining to their businesses and operations, including entity formation, contract negotiation, corporate governance, organizational structuring, and general business advice. She also works on different forms of business transactions, including acquisitions and partnership buyouts. Kara’s estate planning practice involves assisting with the preparation and administration of estates.

Prior to joining Coolidge Wall, Kara worked for Ernst and Young in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked as a tax consultant developing relevant and flexible tax-compliant compensation, benefit and incentive approaches for clients. Additionally, Kara supported clients in complex transactions (mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures), and drafted memorandums and opinions addressing various Internal Revenue Code Sections, including, but not limited to, 83(b), 162(m), 280G, and 409A.

Kara earned her undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago with a B.B.A. in Business Marketing. She graduated from The University of Dayton School of Law, with a certified concentration in Business and Compliance Law. While in law school, Kara was a legal extern at Coolidge Wall. Additionally, Kara graduated from the University of Dayton Master of Business Administration Program.
