8:30-9:15 am: Setting the Course in 2025: Outlining significant changes and developments in employment law that you need to know, presented by David Pierce and Samantha Shemavonian

  • A review of the Trump Administration’s impact on employment law including changes in staffing, priorities, and enforcement at the EEOC, NLRB, DOL, and DHS
  • A discussion of significant cases decided in the last year and those pending before the Court
  • Suggestions regarding strategies and policies employers should consider adopting in light of workforce and legal changes

9:15-10:00 am: Maneuvering Through the Uncharted Waters of Employee Bankruptcy and Garnishment with a Steady Compass, presented by Pat Friesinger

  • An overview of issues that arise for employers when an employee or former employee files bankruptcy or is garnished
  • We will discuss the potential impacts on employment agreements, ability to discharge debts/obligations, wage and hour claims, and processing Chapter 13 payroll deductions and garnishments

  • Discussing the Intersection of FMLA and ADA

11:00 am: Into the Deep: The Law of Voluntary Abandonment, presented by Michelle Bach and Josh Lounsbury

  • A review of case law outlining whether a “voluntary abandonment” of employment is a defense to the payment of temporary total in a Workers’ Compensation claim
  • An explanation of the legislature’s enactment of a new statute in 2020 that redefined a claimant’s entitlement to temporary total
  • Real life examples of how the voluntary abandonment law is applied in various scenarios
