Summer Associate

Each summer, Coolidge Wall employs one full-time summer associate who has completed their second year of law school. This position starts in mid-May and runs through mid-August, depending upon the student’s school schedule and is a paid position. Applications are accepted for this position from August – September each calendar year. During the open application period, phone/video interviews along with face-to-face interviews will be conducted at our firm’s location in Dayton, Ohio, or at the student’s law school. Overall, our goal is to identify future attorneys who would be a great fit for entry-level associate opportunities with Coolidge Wall upon graduation.

These law students will get “hands-on” assignments from all departments at the firm during their tenure to better understand each area of civil practice. Over the course of the program, students can also expect to assist in preparing for court proceedings as well as attend client meetings and depositions. The students will be assigned to an attorney within the firm to help guide and support them while knowing shareholders are willing and ready to answer questions as well. In addition, the firm plans social events and other opportunities outside of day-to-day operations so that the students will get to understand Coolidge Wall’s culture and the potential fit.

School Year Law Clerks

Externs and Law Clerks

Coolidge Wall employs one third-year law school student as a law clerk. This position is for each semester during the academic school year and starts mid-August through winter break and from winter break  through mid-May, depending upon the student’s school schedule. This is a part-time, paid position. Applications are accepted year-round, depending on need. Phone/video interviews along with face-to-face interviews will be conducted at our firm’s location in Dayton, Ohio, or at the student’s law school. Overall, our goal is to identify give law students an opportunity to gain experience in varying areas of the law and help foster their development as future attorneys.

Extern

Coolidge selects one part-time extern for each semester during the academic school year. Selection is completed at the annual Extern Fair, typically held in February. Externs receive academic credits and will primarily engage in job shadowing to learn more about the practice of law and what attorneys do on a day-to-day basis. In this position, the extern will be assigned a mentor at the firm to act as a liaison with the student’s law school to assist in attaining credits. These students will get “hands on” assignments from all departments at the firm during their tenure and will have an opportunity to observe court proceedings, client meetings, and depositions as such opportunities become available during the term.
